HP Scanjet G4050 Scanner Driver

Hello everyone, I have a new request

My friend has been using this scanner for 13 years and see no reason to change it, but, HP is unable to give me a Driver to run it on Mac Mojave. Maybe you have a solution for me!
Otherwise, I went to the "Hamrick" site which offers a driver called VueScan (reverse engineering!).
Do you know and is there a risk in downloading it?

I've Mac Mohave & Ubuntu 18.04 x64 on this machine.

It should work without any drivers in both OS.
